On May 16th, CITO 16/17 held an event where the popular Swedish game Kubb (sometimes referred to as “Viking Chess”) was played. Unfortunately, there was heavy rainfall during the entire event, emulating a typical Swedish summer night perfectly, however some people were brave enough to conquer the rain and play regardless of the weather conditions. Other than Kubb, a music quiz was held and some snacks were served to the guests inside the CITO office. Thanks to everyone who attended despite the unfortunate weather conditions! This was the last event of CITO 16/17, however please note that the office will remain open at the regular opening hours until May 30th. You are all very welcome to join us there!
On the 28th of April 2017, eight of the CITO representatives visited AkzoNobel in Taichung. We met primarily with Steve Wang, who has worked at AkzoNobel for more than 10 years and he got a background in chemistry from university. Besides his chemistry degree, Mr. Wang also has an MBA exam from the US. AkzoNobel has operated actively in Taiwan for more than 20 years.
On April 27th, CITO invited the new members of NCTU Europe (who will start their studies at Chalmers in Sweden after the summer) to cook and enjoy some Swedish-style tacos as well as chocolate balls. The dinner was highly appreciated, and CITO would like to wish the new NCTU Europe all the best during their exchange in Sweden. Vi ses i Sverige!

On March 21st, the very popular day “Fettisdagen” (Fat Tuesday) was celebrated in the CITO office. Of course, during this event, a huge amount of Semlas were consumed by the attendants. The guests were also challenged with a (quite tricky) Tipspromenad-quiz with questions about Sweden. We had a really good time, and hope that all of the guests who attended did as well! Stay tuned for more updates and events from us in the future!
We are back! On Monday the 13th of March our office will once again open during lunch. On the 6th of January, the entire CITO travelled to Taipei to meet with the global Swedish ICT company Ericsson. On site, we were received by Emily Wang who hosted us together with Håkan Cervell, President of Ericsson Taiwan Ltd. In addition, we had the fortune of hearing speaks from Dann Yao (CTO) and Kerem Celik (Head of operations in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau). The visit started with Mr. Cervell explaining the businesses and actions of Ericsson, both globally and in the local East Asian region. Ericsson has nowadays moved away from being solely a telecom company and selling mobile phones to consisting of four core areas; Networks, IT, Media and Industries. Mr. Cervell explained Ericsson’s attempts to create “the Networked Society” in which everyone, both consumers and industries, are connected in real time and enabled to share and find information in new ways.
On the 12th of December, a group of eight CITO members and one NCTU student (and former exchange student at Chalmers) visited Höganäs AB’s sales office in Taipei. We were welcomed by Ola Litström, Country Manager Taiwan and South East Asia & Application Development Manager Region Asia, who hosted the visit. After greetings and some informal talking, we were given a presentation about Höganäs’ history, their products and markets. Höganäs started with coal mining 1979 in the town of Höganäs in southern Sweden. The coal mining was soon supplemented with manufacturing salt glazed ceramics, before Höganäs turned into their present focus; powder metal (PM) production, a field where they today can claim to be the world’s leading manufacturer. Today Höganäs has 1800 employees, more than 1500 products and customers in 75 countries.
